History of Mahabodhi temple
During the 3rd century BC, when Emperor Asoka visited here and learned about the significance of the place, he constructed a small temple near the Bodhi tree. Brickwork has been used on the outer walls of the temple to present scenes from Buddha’s life. There is also a large image of a seated Lord Buddha, bent and touching the ground with his right hand.
2. Sarnath temple, Varanasi
Situated in domain of sacred city Varanasi, Sarnath is also most visited Buddhist temples in India. Sarnath is the destination where Lord Buddha gave his first sermons to his disciples. 4. Red Maitreya Temple, Leh
